7 more arrested, Classes not held, exam rescheduled

Rajshahi University (RU) is till now out of academic classes after a fierce violence between Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on February 8 night in which Faruk a BCL activist and Masters Student killed brutally. There is no class held on Tuesday (Today) as students yet to return on campus and the residential dormitories for the panic of mass arrest and harassment. Several departments including the Department of Management, Law & Justice, Computer Science & Engineering Department and Philosophy Department rescheduled the exams date. The Management Dept. rescheduled the exams from February 13 to first week of March, the Department of Law & Justice and the Computer Science & Engineering Dept. yet to rescheduled the exam date till now while the Philosophy Dept. will continue the exams after March 05 the departmental sources said. Sources said that, the five member probe committee handled by the dean of Life & Earth Science Faculty Prof Golam Kabir that formed by RU authority started to investigation work from Saturday on the incident of February 8 night. It mentioned that the probe committee asked to provide the investigation report within February 20. On the other hand the Motihar Thana police arrested 7 peoples including the employees, students as suspected Shibir cadre from the RU campus and the different places of the city in the connection of RU incident. The arrestees are identified as Ashikur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman, Moni and others. There are over 130 arrested totally on the RU incident after February 09. Dr. Shamim Ahmed, chairman of Computer Science & Engineering Dept. said that, the academic meeting will be held on February 20 and the exam date also rescheduled in the meeting. Assistant proctor Mostaque Ahmed said the situation was getting normal. ‘Students who left the campus after the Shibir attack on the campus are yet to return. The situation will become normal in two to three days.' The Officer in Charge (OC) of Motihar Thana police station Tofazzol Hossain said that, the mass arrest and the harassment of the general students that it is totally university controlled matter. We have nothing to do in this regard.
