Edit Date:9/26/2011 12:00:00 AM

Two local BNP leaders were killed by unknown assailants in Natore and Jessore early yesterday and Friday night, in two separate incidents.

Momin Mondol, 52, joint secretary of Biaghat union unit of Natore was killed at Jogendranagar village in Gurudaspur.

Criminals stormed into Momin's house around 1:00am yesterday and looted cash and valuables after slitting his throat, said Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gurudaspur Police Station.

Meanwhile, in Jessore, Korban Ali, 35, organising secretary of a ward committee in Sharsha upazila, was hacked to death at Bahilapota village on Friday night.

According to the police, a gang threw handmade bombs towards Korban while he was returning home around 9:30pm.

They then chased and pounced him with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot, said AKM Faruk Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sarsha Police Station.

Family sources said Korban had enmity with a convicted criminal who killed his brother Liakat last year.

Following the incident, local BNP leaders and workers thronged the spot and demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the killers.
