BCL rivals clash at B'baria college

At least 50 bombs were exploded as a Chhatra League (BCL) faction at Brahmanbaria Government Honours College attacked and foiled a procession by their rival group yesterday.

A chase and counter-chase also took pace between the two BCL factions on the campus in the morning.

Witnesses said, the new convening committee of district BCL brought out a procession welcoming the freshers at Brahmanbaria Govt Honours College yesterday morning.

When the procession crossed main gate of the college, 15-16 hand bombs were exploded by a rival group foiling the procession and creating panic among the students.

At this, the college authorities announced suspension of classes.

Later, more bombs were blasted in TA Road area forcing the shopkeepers to pull their shutters down.

In Patuakhali, at least 10 Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists were injured as they locked in a clash with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists at Janata College under Dumki upazila yesterday morning.

Of the injured, JCD activists Hossain Ahmod, Shamim Mridha, Atiqur Rahman, Miraj and Saju took primary treatment at local clinics, reports our correspondent.

Police and college authorities said, BCL brought out a procession at about 10am on the campus welcoming the newly admitted students.

Later on JCD, brought out another procession at about 11am.

But over 25 BCL activists attacked the JCD procession injuring at least 10 JCD activists, they said.
