Clashes kill 3 AL youth activists

Jhenaidah, Dec 30 (bdnews24.com) – Three activists of the ruling party's youth front have died in Jhenaidah in an internal clash over establishing supremacy in the area. 

The deceased were identified as Bazlur Rahman, 40, of Bhutiargati village, Alamgir Hossain Alam, 35, of Pabhati village, and Sohan, also known as Shohag, 27. 

Jhenaidah superintendent of police Mohammad Rezaul Karim told bdnews24.com that the clash took place at Pabhat intersection of the town on Thursday around 7.30pm. 

Karim said that Pabhati village Juba League unit's Jahangir group had a long dispute with its rival Masud group. 

Ahead of the upcoming municipal polls Masud group gave support to commissioner candidate Jahidul Islam while the Jahangir group supported another commissioner candidate Akhter Hossain. 

Bazlur, Alamgir and Shohag were seriously injured as they were chopped with large sharp weapons in the clash. Of them, the first two died on their way to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital while Showag died on the way to Dhaka. 

Additional policemen have been deployed in Jhenaidah to avert any untoward incident.
