RMC closed over BCL infighting

Authorities closed Rangpur Medical College till October 23 over a clash between two factions of Chhartra League and asked the students to vacate the hostels by 3:00pm on Sunday.
   Ten were injured as the factions of the ruling Awami League’s associate body of students clashed and vandalised a hostel and set fire to a room in another hostel.
   The police and campus sources two factions clashed on the campus on Saturday night, in which 10 of both the groups were injured.
   The sources said the campus had been tense over the formation of the college unit Chhatra League committee.
   The injured include Shamsuddin, Mithun, Kawsar, Shohag, Sanjib, Imran and Imran.
   The activists vandalised the Mukta Hostel and set on fire a room of the Pinu Hostel. The residents of the Pinu Hostel also came to be attacked. The police later contained the situation.
    After the clash on Saturday night, one of the groups went out on demonstrations on Sunday morning, demanding
   that the college unit committee of the organisaton, led by Ashraful Haque Pulok and Sujoy, should be cancelled.
   The new committee president, Ashraful Haque, said the activists of the dissolved committee along with the outsiders had vandalised the hostels. He demanded immediate arrest and expulsion of the students responsible for the incident.
   The academic council of the college at an emergency meeting on Sunday noon closed the college
   till October 23 fearing
   that further clashes might take place. The students were asked to vacate the hostels.
   Police deployment was reinforced to stave off further untoward incidents.
   The Kotwali police officer-in-charge, Hayder Ali Molla, said the situation was under control.
   No cases were filed in this connection till Sunday evening.
