10 injured in BCL infighting at JnU

At least 10 students were injured as two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra League clashed Wednesday with lethal weapons at Jagannath University in Dhaka. 
   Eyewitness said the clash ensued at about 7:30pm between supporters of the university unit BCL Sraban group and Babar group over distribution of iftar on the campus. 
   The Babar group first attacked their rivals in front of the JnU cafeteria at around 7:20pm. The two groups were locked in clash for half an hour when the supporters of Sraban group make a counter attack, leaving at least 10 students injured. 
   Of the injured, six were identified as Jalal, Rasel, Murtaza, Himu, Hasan and Jalil. Among them, the condition of Jalal, sixth semester student of history department, and Rasel, fifth semester student of geography department, was stated to be serious. They were admitted to the Sumana Medical for treatment. 
   Informed, the police, with JnU BCL unit president Kamrul Hasan Ripon and general secretary Gazi Abu Sayed, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. 
   A large contingent of police was deployed at the campus as a tense situation was prevailing following the clashes.
   Kotowali police station duty officer Ataur Rahman told New Age, ‘We did not take any action out there as they came to an understanding.’ 
   JnU proctor Kazi Asaduzzaman could not be reached for comment as his phone found off.
