86 Ctg Jamaat-Shibir men remanded.

 A Chittagong court on Saturday placed 86 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its associated organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) on a two-day remand each in a case filed against them for attacking police.


The people who were taken on remand includes Chittagong city unit Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Prof Ahsanullah.


He along with other arrestees was brought to the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Azizul Hoque at around 2.30pm amid tight security.


The court granted the remand as the Investigation Officer (IO) and also Officer in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Mohiuddin Mahmud prayed to the court to grant a seven-day remand for each of them.


Sub Inspector Ruhul Amin of Kotwali Police Station filed the case Friday night accusing 96 identified and 2,500 to 3000 others unidentified leaders and activists of the Jamaat and ICS.


Of them, 86 were arrested from Jamal Khan Intersection Friday afternoon during a clash with police while ten of the identified accused including Jamaat lawmaker from Chittagong -14 (Lohagara-Satkania) constituency Shamsul Islam and former lawmaker from the same constituency Shahjahan Chowdhury remained absconding.
